It’s time to share another Staffroom Surprise!
We travelled to Burton upon Trent to surprise the wonderful staff at Anglesey Primary Academy.
Celebrating Anglesey Primary Academy
This is possibly the biggest primary school we have ever visited and definitely the biggest school we have ever surprised! From the moment we arrived, it was clear why Anglesey Primary Academy had been nominated.
The caretakers came out to greet us and helped carry in all the prizes (we were very thankful!) and the headteacher, Lindsey (who had unfortunately lost her voice), was incredibly welcoming and friendly.
The school was nominated by teacher Laura, who said:
“This school has saved my teaching career. After a very bad experience in my first two years of teaching, I went on supply and found this large, three-form entry primary school nestled in a very multicultural area. The staff are incredible and go above and beyond for every single child. Senior leadership are the most supportive people I have ever come across — dropping everything to see you if you have a problem and getting things sorted within an hour.
The caring, friendly environment makes our school a truly lovely place to work. There is not one single staff member who does not deserve this treat. We had Ofsted earlier in the year and were 100% ready because of what we do every single day. It was a very calm experience where we showed just how far the school has come.
Any members of staff who have been at the school for four years or more can tell you how the school has been transformed by the highly supportive and experienced senior leadership team, alongside the fantastic staff — from teachers and teaching assistants to admin staff and lunchtime supervisors — who have transformed behaviour at lunchtime.”
Their Staffroom Surprise
As Anglesey is such a large school, and with Halloween just around the corner, we decided to do something a little out of the ordinary.
We organised games and activities where staff could win TPTC stationery, chocolate treats, bubble bath and Anglesey Express vouchers (tokens to spend on their Friday treat trolley!). All staff were given tokens to play games of their choice, including a tombola and ‘pick a stick’, with plenty of prizes up for grabs.
Some staff were especially lucky — one member of staff even won £40 worth of TPTC gift cards! It was so lovely to see everyone laughing and having fun, especially as they thought they were heading to the hall for a staff meeting.

Our Staffroom Surprise Initiative
