Welcome to The Positive teacher Company’s very first blog post! I thought it was about time I gave a voice to what’s being going on here for the past year.
So at the moment, I’m sat in the TPTC HQ. I felt like it needed a swanky business type name like HQ, but in fact until a month ago it was my dining room. However, I’m very very lucky to have a truly talented father in law who built me a fabulous big garden office and now I can finally say that TPTC has it’s own space for 2019 (I’m sure you’ll hear my husband cheering from where you are).
A few of you will have followed the journey of The Positive Teacher Company from the very beginning, while some of you will have just discovered us. Whoever you are, thank you for your support! The last year has been a complete whirlwind and I can’t believe it’s 2019 already. So much has happened with the business in that time and I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come.
For those who don’t know who I am, I’m Rachel. I’m an assistant headteacher in a primary school in Leeds. I’ve been teaching since 2010, with this year being my very first year of not being classroom based which has been incredibly scary. Most of my teaching career has been spent in Year 6 and at the moment I lead on English, Curriculum and Key Stage 2 so like everyone else, I’ve got a lot of plates to spin but I love it!
Some of you may know my husband Carl, who has been blogging as Dadtastic Voyage for the past few years. Carl’s a stay-at-home dad now, allowing me to grow this business without giving up my passion of being in a school. I think it’s so important that I keep in touch with teaching. The Positive Teacher Company is in no way my ‘a way out’ of teaching- completely the opposite. If I’m not in school, I can’t be ‘The Positive Teacher’, I’d just be someone who thinks she remembers what it was like to work in a school, thinks she knows what teachers still need but actually I have no idea anymore. I love teaching, I love the people you meet in teaching and most of all, as cheesy as it sounds, I like making a difference.
Suffice to say my home life is incredibly busy. A growing business takes up lots of my time, but I’m also a very proud mum to two girls and my two fur babies.
Hopefully this will be the first of many blog posts this year. I aim to write one every few weeks at least and would love to hear from you if you'd like to guest post about anything from being a positive teacher to how you use some of the products you have bought from us. Once again welcome or welcome back to The Positive Teacher Company. Enjoy!
